If they do buy Cabela's out, they would only make that situation worse by opening another store within 15 miles.
I wonder how the Cabela's next to Carowinds is performing, as there is also a Bass Pro Shops in the Charlotte area at Concord Mills.

I think that's the problem. Too many of these stores. It used to be a special thing to go to one. Now no big deal as they are popping up in every metro area. I remember when they announced Cabela's here and everyone thought it would cause total gridlock at all times of day with people coming from hours and hours away. Many days parking lot doesn't even look half full.

Well the Greenville store was special as it was the first Cabelas in the Southeast.

Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's have been opening smaller "outpost" stores. Those stores do not have the magic and draw the flagship and standard stores have.

When I was living in Pennsylvania they opened up the Cabelas in Hamburg PA, which is the largest Cabelas. Despite not being outdoors people at all at the time, my entire family filled up the Family Truckster and drove an hour to check it out. I knew tons of people who did that. When they first open, they are like any new exciting thing, and everyone goes to check it out, but as time goes by, it loses its luster.

Makes you wonder. Spartanburg County council was adamant about getting their utilities out there when Greer was ready to go that they spent gobs of money and they have yet to see any return.
