And Greer is not the only place it has delayed plans ( basically cancelled it). It has occurred across the country, in Westchester, PA and Colorado. Basically the aura of having a Bass Pro shop and going to it is not any more. And if the Memphis store is any indication, it sucks a lot of money from the taxpayers with a promised return that never materializes.

On the other hand Cabelas seems to be doing well and opening stores without too much delays.

Sorry to hear if the Bass pro Shops deal may have indeed fallen through.

This is the response I received yesterday from Bass Pro Shops:
Quote:
Thank you for contacting basspro.com. Your business is truly appreciated. This store is currently in development planning. We do no yet have a specific timeframe. Please stay tuned in for future updates!

Thank you for choosing Bass Pro Shops as your outdoor retailer!
Bass Pro Shops has not announced any new stores since May 2015. The store remains listed as a future store on its Outdoor World Retail Stores map.

Who knows what is happening in Bass Pro Shops' court.

Bass Pro Shops announced with great fanfare they were opening in North Charleston a few years ago and nothing has happened.

Cabela's pulled out of the Charleston area as well. I think once they saw the performance of Field and Stream and Gander Mountain, they realized it wasn't going to be such a big deal to locate here.

Field & Stream and Gander Mountain are nice stores. They are not on the same tier as Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's.

I didn't know Field and Stream is a subsidiary of Dick's Sporting Goods. I want to check out the F&S store at the Asheville Outlets soon.

Speculation: With the I-85/US-101 site for sale, I am reminded that BPS refers to this project as being "Spartanburg" and not "Greer" and that BPS currently owns another tract of similar size, also within Spartanburg County, that is currently home to TrueTimber Camo. My guess now is that, if this project materializes at all, it could land off US-176 (Asheville Hwy.) at I-26 near Inman instead of off I-85. There are a lot of advantages to the Inman location. For one thing, the I-85 site is too far off I-26 to draw much traffic from the I-26 corridor, while the I-26 site might be close enough to I-85 that it could draw traffic from the I-85 corridor when fed by a few well-placed billboards. Any takers?

I could see the site at Interstate 26 and Asheville Highway (United States Route 176) become the preferred location. Proximity to Interstate 26 and Interstate 85 works better there. It could motivate the city of Inman to annex eastward toward Interstate 26 and actually grow. It needs the growth.

The Interstate 26 exit 15 interchange would need to be rebuilt. The partial cloverleaf interchange is outdated.

As others have said, seems more like a company issue than a Greer issue. Cabelas is a good alternative though.
