Once a company merges or buys another one of similar nature, it tries to consolidate the two and try to wring out any savings. At that point opening new store locations is not high on their priority list. Since there is already a Cabelas in Greenville, the chances of Bass Pro coming anywhere near is close to zero. Maybe after 5-10 years they might open up new locations, but not within the next 5 years.

It is probably too early in the merger for them to evaluate duplicate properties. It will be interesting to see what happens in the Charlotte area, where they already have a Bass Pro Shops in Concord and a Cabela's in Ft. Mill. And I wonder if long term they would consider consolidating all the stores under one name. As for the proposed Spartanburg County location, I would now be a bit skeptical with the Cabela's already so close in Greenville. But they still have that decision remaining to be made.

The Charlotte Metro market can support the Bass Pro / Cabela stores. And they are on North and South ends of the main Charlotte city.

I don't see GSP area supporting the Cabela and Bass Pro so close to each other as proposed.

Bass Pro puts Spartanburg plans on hold, spokeswoman says

Quote:
The plans for a Bass Pro store in Spartanburg County have been put on hold, according to a company spokeswoman.

Officials announced that a Bass Prop Shops was expected to open last year in Greer off Interstate 85 at Highway 101, but groundbreaking for the project was delayed.

“Plans have been placed on hold since we initially announced this location,” Katie Mitchell, communications manager for Bass Pro Shops Group, said Tuesday. “Like all retailers, we are assessing the way our customers want to interact with us and remain dedicated to serving outdoor enthusiasts in the region.”

Bass Pro Shops' future Spartanburg County store has been removed from its "Outdoor Stores Retail Locations" page.

Bass Pro Shops' bid to acquire Cabela's is yet to be finalized pending review and approval from the Federal Trade Commission.

Default Loves trucking

LOVES Trucking has shown great interest in the property on the corner of 101/I85, but has had concerns about the traffic coming off from north bound traffic. They have been in contact with DOT and as well as done a traffic study. There has been talks to add lanes on 185 in the area. Now that they are expected to expand BMW to satisfy the traffic flow that will be increased greatly on 101.

Didn't Greer put in some sewer and other infrastructure in anticipation for this? Did Bass Pro pay for any of it or do they just get to cut and run?
