No quarry on Plemmons road, just an asphalt plant.

Acknowledged. That corner of Interstate 85 at South Carolina 101 is mostly industrialized. I doubt it can become commercialized quickly.
The area down South Carolina 101 to receive any commercialization will be at Reidville Road (South Carolina 296). I do not know how soon Crossroads Plaza, 8310 Reidville Road, Greer, SC 29651-7213 will be realized.

I would speculate that there is an agreement somewhere that says Spinx can remain in the present location until such time as Pacolet Milliken wants to do something else with the land, which time has now come.

Excavating has begun to the left of Waffle House all the way to Caliber Ridge Road.

Voluntary Cleanup Contract posted on site
I noticed that the Bass Pro site has posted a notice on highway 101 that there is a Voluntary Cleanup Contract between Bass Pro and DHEC. From the DHEC web site the contract was signed August 7th 2014. I wonder if the contamination issue will push back the 2016 opening date given originally.

I do not know when in 2016 Bass Pro Shops will be opening, and how long a voluntary cleanup would take. If the cleanup is already part of the process and will be done right and quickly, construction of the store can begin, and it will be ready to open at the right time.

More info from DHEC about the Bass Pro site...
DHEC: Plans & Reports
Agreement between DHEC and Bass Pro has been signed.
I browsed through the docs and it appears that Bass Pro agrees to clean up, monitor water, and report any contamination found back to DHEC.

Bass Pro Shops closed on its purchase of 75 acres at South Carolina 101 and Interstate 85 from Pacolet Milliken yesterday.
Spartanburg County will be providing police, fire, rescue, water and sewer services to the site. It does not want the city of Greer to annex the site.

Opposite Bass Pro Shops, on Highway 101, is a Quik Trip that will be one of its largest stores in its inventory in acreage to provide drivers to park their rigs on site while stocking up with goods.

Are they talking about the empty lot next to Sunoco? There has been a QT sign there for nearly a year.
