If they were to return- the old location at 385-Roper Mountain is empty and is a pretty darn good spot now with all the apartment and residential growth along Verdae.
I recall signs going up in either 1991 or 1992 for Thornblade Village with Harris Teeter. Those signs remained up for a few years with no construction taking place. In late 1993 or early 1994, Publix announced plans for their first two area stores, store 530 (Publix at Woodruff) and store 531 (Publix at Thornblade). I originally thought Publix would open where Spinx is now in preparation to directly compete against Harris Teeter. Instead, I think the developer was ready to build and Harris Teeter rested on their laurels too long and bowed out.

In rare circumstances do stores return to their old locations. Rose's Express opened on Farr's Bridge Road. Winn Dixie's old store 1020 in Mauldin closed, was demolished, and replaced by store 1051, a Marketplace store. Closing in 2000, the store was razed again to make way for Publix store 1012.

Despite its accessibility issues getting in and getting out, 401 Roper Mountain Road is a great location for a supermarket. Bi-Lo would have been smart to keep store 460 open in addition to opening store 5704 (Verdae Village) with the Verdae development moving forward. There are many residences along Roper Mountain Road not willing to go out of the way to Laurens Road, Pelham Road or Woodruff Road for the necessities of food and pharmacy.

I would like to see Publix add a store in that area, but more in the vicinity of Verdae.

That must be a huge piece of property at 500 Congaree to fit in everything that ATL fan would like to see there.

A Dollar Tree would underutilize that site greatly.

I prefer not to see 500 Congaree Road be the site of a single freestanding restaurant or dollar store. The site is big enough to accommodate several uses. It should be re-purposed as higher quality lodging or for a group of good restaurants that is more successful than those at the corner of Congaree Road and Halton Road.

I know someone made a mention of Benefitfocus relocating into new construction on that site.

I definitely want to see a Big Boy return to this area. Either Frisch's Big Boy or Bob's Big Boy. Or even a Shoney's would be nice, but prefer their original Big Boy format.

I am surprised to see Shoney's in Greenwood remains open. It is senseless to have a buffet limited to breakfast foods all day when lunch and dinner options exist and are better received. That was the scenario in my last visit there in 2003.
