I enjoy the input and the enthusiasm from the ATL fan. He has an inquisitive nature, and can be thought provoking as he suggests several good ideas and topics for discussion. Not everything he says may be feasible, but it can be worthy of discussion or prompt debate for alternative ideas or suggestions.

I'm beginning to find the complaints much more annoying. It really takes guts to hijack Atl's own thread to accuse him of trolling

The Roper Mtn Rd. store was an original Harris Teeter and was one of their nicer formats when built. It became a Bi-Lo before it was closed.

Never heard of a Hariis-Tetter or a Korgers or a SuperMarket.

Harris Teeter store 260 opened in August 1996. I recall going there at the time of its grand opening. I doubt it was their first store in South Carolina to have a pharmacy, but it was the only one of the five Greenville and Spartanburg county stores to have it.

Bi-Lo acquired Harris Teeter's stores in 2001. Two stores, South Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville; and Reidville Road, Spartanbirg, closed immediately. Two other stores became Food$mart, store 393, Old Spartanburg Road, Greer; and East Main Street, Spartanburg. Both locations closed in 2005. Harris Teeter store 260, now Bi-Lo store 460, would operate until July 2007. It was replaced by Super Bi-Lo store 5704 at Verdae Village.

Kroger is very smart in determining how to enter new markets and re-enter past markets. Re-entering past markets with Harris Teeter in Charlotte, North Carolina and Charleston, South Carolina is a great move. How they could duplicate that success in this area remains to be seen.

This market could go either way. We have Harris Teeter nearby in Charlotte. On the other side, Kroger is in the Columbia and Atlanta markets.

I've never really liked Kroger but their inevitable re-entry into this market could be either as Kroger or as Harris Teeter.

I was at the Harris Teeter grand opening at Roper Mtn as well. I remember something odd about the registers. Did they have talking registers or some similar gimmick? That was one of the nicest stores in the area when it first opened.

I do not know what success Kroger had with the two Anderson stores in the 1980s. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard location, now Bi-Lo store 5626, was the only one to continue operating.

Harris Teeter turned a corner with the opening of store 260. I will agree it was one of the nicest stores in Greenville. I am afraid they missed the boat on opening additional locations afterward. If they remained and opened new stores in the Greenville and Spartanburg areas, Boiling Springs, Duncan, Pelham-Batesville, Powdersville, Simpsonville and Taylors could have been served.

Yes, They let Publix take their lunch here. They made a big mistake by not adding more stores all over the area like Publix. If I remember Harris Teeter had originally eyed the site at Thornblade where Publix sits now.

If they were to return- the old location at 385-Roper Mountain is empty and is a pretty darn good spot now with all the apartment and residential growth along Verdae.
