My husband and I will be visiting Greenville for a week in July. Can anyone recommend a nice reasonably priced hotel in the downtown area? Kitchenette facility would be a plus. We will have a car rental but would prefer to stay downtown or somewhere near.

If you don't have to be right downtown, I recommend staying in the Haywood Mall area; you can get a very nice hotel room for a good price through the various online sites. It's possible they may have specials for downtown, as well.

My wife and I have stayed at the Hampton Inn downtown and, most recently, the Holiday Inn Express downtown. Both were terrific. Not sure what your price range is, but we didn't find them too expensive and the convenience (ie not having to drive to go to dinner, etc) was great.

My family stayed at the Hampton Inn RiverPlace downtown when visiting me a couple weeks ago and loved it.

I definitely agree and recommend this to everyone. We've stayed at LaQuinta and the Extended Stay and were very pleased. The Extended Stay has spacious rooms and a kitchen. The highway is just right there and it takes you right into downtown in 10 minutes or less. If you go on hotwire.com, you can get an awesome deal. I think we ended up paying around $50/night at the Extended Stay. The LaQuinta is nice with a good breakfast. They only have a micro and fridge though.

Thank you, Beckycat! We stayed at LaQuinta as well, and it was very nice.

I also stayed at LaQuinta last October ... a decent hotel at a good price, with plenty of restaurants near and the mall across the street. For someone from a small town, it might seem like a 10 minute drive is far from town center, but for someone who's used to traffic in a large suburban area it's just a short drive.
It seems you pay a *huge* premium for rooms downtown ... I haven't found anything I'd call "reasonably priced" downtown (the Hampton Inn and Suite downtown's rooms run $200+ per night right now, $177 with an advance purchase ... too rich for my blood).

We booked the room at La Quinta which was $10 a night more expensive than extended Stay but the online reviews for it were much better. Thanks everyone for the input. Really appreciate it.

You won't be disappointed. The breakfast is good. They have a nice courtyard by the pool. The rooms are clean and the hotel is updated. They have a microwave and fridge. Good location.
