Default What about Greer?

What are y'all willing to say about Greer? Does it really work as a small town? Does it have enough to where you don't have to drive to Greenville for every little thing?

Well one can have a Greer address and not really be in the "city" limits. I have a Greer address but I'm in the county or unincorporated land. Yes, you can get everything you need without going into the Greenville. Most of the residential areas of Greenville are county and not city. There are the cities of Greer, Taylors, Mauldin, Simpsonville (and a few I've probably missed) within a short distance. All are in Greenville county with the exeption of the city of Greer which is in Spartanburg. Having a Greer address though doesn't mean you are in Spartanburg (confused yet) just that that is the post office that serves the area. I'm in Greenville county and therefore schools are in the Greenville school district.

The differences between being in a city and being in unincorporated lands is services and taxes. In the city you pay city taxes to include things like trash collection. In unincorporated land you don't pay city taxes but you pay for your own trash collection and are free to choose whichever company available you want.

Have you visited yet? If this is definitely in your agenda to move here then a visit is in order (if possible the first one should be without kids so you can really look around). Spend more than a few days so that you can tour with and without a realtor. Realtors tend to take you to areas they think outsiders want to see whereas you might be more interested in other areas. When you do visit, don't let things overwhelm you. I found that after moving here that I could get home within 5 minutes from almost anywhere I went despite it seeming like I went miles and miles out of the way. Decide what you are looking for in housing. Are you looking for a development where you can have more contact with neighbors or are you looking to live away from people in the country. Are you looking for a development with a pool or a house with it's own pool.

Cool. I hear you on the visit thing. Hubby is interviewing there tomorrow morning. He'll have a chance to take a quick peek. We won't relocate immediately, so we'll have plenty of time to investigate.

I have a Greer address, pay taxes to Spartanburg, kids go to Greenville schools.....go figure.

Leaving Greer to go to Greenville for certain things is not a big deal. 15 minutes puts you at almost anything you could ever want.

Now that is weird...how come they go to Greenville schools and not Spartanburg? Closeness?
