There are tons of people trying to make a living from writing "Top #" lists, and the info on these lists is typically fairly useless.

I definitely wouldn't base any life and death decisions on a list like this. (Do you know what a "bucket list" is?)
I would agree - the total lack of detailed description of the food or atmosphere at any of the restaurants makes me doubt that the writer has ever been to any of them.

The Flat on Woodruff Rd makes really good burgers. Definitely the best on that side of town IMO. Its has more of neighborhood bar/hangout vibe than a restaurant. Not really a place to take the kiddos.

I also like the burgers at Carolina Ale House.

If you like the thin patty style steakburgers, then Culver's, Freddy's, and Steak N Shake are all good. If you like the thicker home style burgers, then Cook-Out and Five Guys are also good. And as mentioned, pricier establishments such as Bad Daddy's and American Roadside also have a very good burger. But some of the local places such as the various Clock and Pete's locations should also be mentioned, and I tend to prefer the wide patty thin burgers.

When I see "Grill Marks" on this thread, I am always surprised. Have been there twice and found nothing special about the food at all.

I wouldn't consider Five Guys to be thick at all.

Neither is cookout. Both have thin fast food type patties.

Thicker type burgers are at places like red robin, grill marks, etc.

Agreed. I've been a few times and always been disappointed. Not bad, but I just find the burgers to be kind of bland. I'm sure they are using quality beef, but unlike a good steak, I don't find a burger can stand on its own without either a having a good ratio of meat to fat, and/or some sort of seasoning.
