Major construction on Roper Mountain between Blacks Rd. and Riley Smith. They clear-cut every tree and are now starting utility work. There's actually a house in the middle of it all that doesn't seem to be part of the development. Apartments, maybe?

Windsor Aughtry Company Incorporated owns 8.176 acres at Roper Mountain Road and Blacks Drive and 11.4 acres at Roper Mountain Road and Riley Smith Drive.

Most of this section of Roper Mountain Road is residential. I would be curious to know if it is currently zoned residential, or if it is zoned for commercial.

Thank you, grannynancy, for that advise. The entire block bordered by Roper Mountain Road, Blacks Drive and Riley Smith Drive is zoned R-20.

It appears this site will be developed by Mungo Homes. The site is approved for 46 homes on 21 acres.

One negative I found in that article is the lack of long term planning for Roper Mountain Road. It is getting a turn lane and bike lanes from Roper Mountain Road Extention to Feaster Road. Knowing there is more traffic from residences and businesses, Roper Mountain Road should be four lanes to Garlington Road.

That was a beautiful estate/farm (not the home per se, but the property). At one point back 6-8 years ago it was proposed to make it into 5-8 home sites for luxury homes. It's sad to see all of the trees they ripped out to pile more cookie cutter homes on it.
