Hello all - this forum has been very helpful as I consider a relocation to the upstate area. I have an interview next Friday, Jan 9, and will be staying the weekend to check things out. I'm looking for suggestions how I might best spend my time with the following in mind:

- If I move there, it will be me, girlfriend and a dog who is my child.
- We would rent for 6-12 months before buying.
- What areas should I drive through to get a sense of where we might/should rent should I eventually be offered and accept the position? We prefer a house so the dog has a backyard, but not opposed to a loft or something that will allow a 6 month lease. I also don't want to pay too much as I really dislike the idea of paying rent vs. buying. I know that's relative, but I wouldn't want to spend more than $1200/mo rent. Regarding area, I'd be working at Clemson, and open to just about anything - areas of Greenville, Easley, etc. We don't have heavy requirements, just want to be somewhat close to the essentials - grocery stores, shopping, etc.

I arrive Thursday evening, interview most of the day Friday and leave Sunday morning, staying at the Courtyard in downtown Greenville. Have a car and really hoping to squeeze in as much as possible to get a good feel for the area. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Oh, and I LOVE BBQ. Dinner on my own all three nights, so suggestions would be great!

Not barbecue but worth a dinner stop at The Lazy Goat.

For BBQ, the only place to go is Henry's, at Church St. and Wade Hampton Blvd., which is close to downtown Greenville.

If you are hired to work in the Clemson area, I advise to start your search in the immediate area. As you desire to be near essentials, I would begin your search in Clemson and Central. If you wanted to be near more shopping and dining, I would extend your search to Seneca. Pendleton is a small town to consider also.

This is a happen'in city with a great infrastructure and corresponding civic leaders with vision. They have a Whole Foods ( my Disney Land proxy) and developing a cool downtown. We suggest grabbing s bite at Trios A Brick Oven Café downtown and since the people are wonderful just ask
where they would rent ! Good luck and God bless!

If you will be working for Clemson at their Clemson campus, I'd recommend living in Clemson or Central. If you feel you need to be closer to Greenville for some reason you might also consider Easley. Driving from Greenville to Clemson everyday for work would get tiring pretty quickly.

Check out Tupelo Honey Cafe in downtown Greenville. One of my favorite restaurants!

Good luck

Thank you for all the replies. Looks like I have some great choices for places to eat.

I am getting excited to come out next week. Think I will spend some time in Clemson and Central after my interview on Friday and spend Saturday checking out Greenville and Easley. Will be mixing in all your restaurant recommendations along the way!
