I have lived in Spartanburg for 23 years now. I have three kids 11 and under. The city has made tremendous strides since I've lived here, especially in the past 5 years or so as I finally feel like we have decided that being Spartanburg is not a bad thing at all, as opposed to the "old" thinking of "we need to do what Greenville is doing."
We're not Greenville, and that's not a bad thing. GVegas is great, but so is the Hub City. I've never felt unsafe, and have plenty of minority friends, none of whom I've ever heard speak of feeling as though they have been subject to racism here. Anywhere you go will have its warts - but mostly anywhere you go will have it's positive points and great places and experiences. I find Spartanburg a great place to raise a family. There's everything here you could possibly need, and if not, it's not far away, whether that's Greenville, Charlotte, Atlanta, the mountains, or the beach.
Now if we could just do something about this hot hot summer.....
