I'm not sure of locations. They announced today by 2016.

This announcement makes no sense to me. Lowe's foods operates in a sector of the market that is already well covered in this area. I see them as slotted somewhere between Ingles and Publix and I just don't see where a new entrant into that market will be successful in this area right now, particularly as Harris Teeter and/or Kroger re-enter this market.

That's who I was told was the new company coming somewhere to Greer a few months back but the info I had was questioned as being valid. I guess there's may be a little validity to it now??

Can you elaborate where you saw this?

Kroger will not enter the market. They own Harris Teeter. BILO is struggling so the door is open.

Harris Teeter (Kroger owned now) is coming back to the market. They have already announced the first store.

I agree though you will not see Kroger having both nameplates here and we more than likely see some mergers and it will not be the Publix or Harris Teeter names that will go.

If Lowes is smart they will expand in areas like Greer, North Main and the fast growing northwest side of Greenville where fewer chains exist.

I wonder if they will fill up some of the empty BiLo stores like the one off Wade Hampton in Taylors?

I see Publix and Harris Teeter dominating the higher end grocery sector, along with Fresh Market and Whole Foods. Not sure there is much room for Lowe's Foods, which has already been forced out of Charlotte by Publix and Harris Teeter. I don't see Lowe's Foods lasting here, and they may ultimately be acquired by HT or Publix.

They could take over Food Lion stores, since they are not doing well here either.
