We are retiring and considering moving to the Greenville/Spartanburg area. Plan to meet with several builders in the next week both as a first look at the area and what builders have to offer. We are looking in the $200k price range.

When I purchased past houses from builders the list price could be negotiated. Usually ~10%. I heard that the demand is so high in this area that negotiation is really not an option.

Looking for recent experience to see what people have found.

Thanks
Norm

Hi Norm-welcome to the forum! In my experience builders are unlikely to negotiate on price but will ofte throw in extras. Now if it is an inventory home, already built, that is another story.

We bought a new home from DR Horton about a year ago. Not only did they not negotiate on the price, they tried very hard to raise the price once we started negotiating. Something about some features that were mistakenly not accounted for correctly. This was on an inventory home. You may be able to get some additional design credits or closing costs, instead. Good luck!

Haven't worked with DR Horton lately but this has not been my experience with other builders.
