When you go to El Molcajete, the secret to the salsa is to ask for the "good" salsa. They give you a spicy brownish tinted tomatillo salsa that you then mix with some of the red gringo salsa. Yum! They also do menudo on the weekends if you are after authentic. I love the taqueria in back of the Supermercado El Rey on White Horse.

Another Update:

My family and I stopped by Tequila's last night in Simpsonville (on Fairview). This is the best Mexican restaurant so far in our short stay in Greenville. Two salsas were brought out (one mild, one spicy) - both flavorful, but still not as good as Anita's. The chips were very good and not overcooked. The menu is gigantic and offers a multitiude of items. Suprisingly, there was a "Real Mexican" section to the menu - yeah! This section offered an array of meats and some interesting selections. The wife order chicken fajitas. Her portion was enormous. Enough for 2 people to split. The refried beans were excellent. I ordered the grilled chicken "Monster Burrito" off the "Real Mexican" menu. It was huge - enough for another meal. The kids split a hamburger - their version looked exactly like a Krystal hamburger! The prices were very cheap - a bargain when compared to Anita's. The service was outstanding - all the servers pitch in for every table. One problem: the place is little small and smoke was constantly drifting in the non-smoking section . When is South Carolina going to wake up and BAN SMOKING IN RESTAURANTS! Smoke was constantly interfering with our meal. Overall, excellent place but we will sit on the far wall away from the smoking section next time (or just get take out ).

There is a really good and autentic Mexican restaurant in Simpsonville on Woodruff Rd. It's called Sabrosos. Everytime I'm in town I have to stop in and get my fix. The prices are also very reasonable. I enjoy going there also because it's family owned and I get to speak in my native language.

LOL.

Sabrosos is good, but it's hardly authentic.

I used to work at the Blockbuster next to El Molcajete and ate there probably 300 times. I love it and miss it dearly. Here in NY we don't have good Mexican food.

Another one, although it's not in Greenville proper, is El Sureno in Powdersville, about 20mins from Greenville. Best salsa in the area, everything tastes really fresh and well prepared, and it's not a ripoff (unlike Rosalinda's).

I deeply miss Greenville's Mexican food selection.

ANITAS IS THE BEST!!!
We just got back from eating at Anitas in Simpsonville and that place was good. Being that we are from CA and have also lived Texas we have standards when it comes to Mexican food and this is the best so far. We met the owner and the son the nicest people and the rest of the staff is so nice as well very friendly feels like your at home eating on the patio outside was great felt like I was in my mom's backyard. My husband had the Beef Fundido and he loved it and i had the #6 Enchilada and Chalupa(tostada) and it was really good took the enchilada and rice and beans home I was too full. The beans and rice were good, especially the beans very good texture yummy! We asked for a hotter salsa then the one the usually give and it was good as well. We even shared a dessert called a Xango and it was so grubbing it is a flower tortilla deep fried with cream cheese inside and drizzled with chocolate and carmel so fabulous!
We have also tried Tequilas last week also in Simpsonville and it was okay but they allow smoking which sucks. I would have tried it again but now for us we would just go to Anitas because it is closer for us and the food is way better and it is completely smoke free and the patio is too! Love it!
