Hello everyone,
I am here seeking advise and help. As a recently divorced single mom of a 10 year old son diagnosed with ADHD, I am contemplating a relocation to the Spartanburg area. I have lived in the Charlotte area for approximately 2 years and I am actually excited about the move (I want a more laid back area for myself and my son). We have access to an ADHD specialist for my son and he LOVES the Panthers. BUT...my current job has turned into one that does not allow much work/life balance. I was offered a job in Spartanburg and the positives are enough that I accepted the job. This job should increase my work/life balance, more stable company (my current company is involved in a merger), although I like the activities that are available in Charlotte it's more congested than I would like. This is what brings me here today and the explanation I have provided above. I also will commute for now, for six weeks to allow my son to finish out the school year. My questions are below. Anyone that can answer any of the questions, I will be very grateful.
1. Housing Location (I am looking to rent and will eventually look to buy), but I want to know areas I should look at with good schools.
*I am planning to visit to look around the area(s), I just wanted to be pointed in the right direction so I can
plan my time when I visit. Should I look outside of Spartanburg and where?
*I need to also keep in mind that it's just myself and my son, commuting from too long of a distance (more
than 30 minutes or so) will not feasible due to the need for him to have before/after/summer care
2. Schools (My son is currently in an awesome top rated school (school of excellence), although he suffers from ADHD, his teachers have worked very hard to help him and he has been on the honor roll since moving to Charlotte), I'm seeking schools that are great and will work with challenging students.
*I know the school selection will tie in with the housing
3. Any recommended pediatricians that may specialize in ADHD or ADHD specialist in the area.
It seems your son attends an exceptional school in Charlotte and it may be a challenge to find the same in South Carolina. However, as for an ADHD pediatrician, check out Dr Sheila Woods who practices in Greenville.
Thank you so much for the recommendation, I will look up Dr. Woods. And yes...his current school is AWESOME!!!!!
