I have been using a pest control company to help get rid of sweet ants that keep finding their way into my house from time to time. They come quarterly, and have good customer service. The problem is that the ants keep coming back. The company comes out for free to spray inbetween quarterly visits if I see ants, but I am wondering why I am paying them when they arent getting rid of my problem. Has anyone used a company that has successfully rid your home forever of sweet ants or am I just fighting a never ending battle?? Thanks!

We have trouble with them, too, but usually the stuff the company puts down quarterly does the trick. Every now and then we have to get them to make an unscheduled visit. Those little buggers are the most persistent ants I've ever seen.

Eventually the treatment wears off due to half life of the chemical or it washes away. You need to eliminate the reason they are coming into the house. Disrupting their path into the house also helps. Figure out where they are entering and clean the area so they lose the trail. When you find where they are entering, try to caulk the opening so even if they reestablish the trail, the opening will no longer be there.

We have been having problems with carpenter ants and this is what we have done and it helps greatly.

The advice above is excellent; we don't have them here but our former house had a lot of small gaps like under the door where they could get in. Aside fom doing all that I found the Terro liquid ant bait to work very well. You just have to be able to bear watching the trail of ants coming and going until the colony is killed.

Something else we've done that seems to help is if you see a mound of any type of ant, slowly pour a very large pot of boiling water over the mound so that it saturates all the way down to kill the queen.

We've had good luck with the Terro baits as well.

We had problems with small ants last year coming into the house. Since we have a dog we were looking for more pet friendly options.

We got a tip to use powdered cloves. We put the powder around areas the ants came in and were seen, edges of the walls etc. Turns out this worked out really well - did not find any ants in the house after a few days. I have also heard of using whole cloves in other areas where powder may not work well, but did not try this in our case.

This does not kill them or get the colony, but did seem to keep them out of the house. Also, this maybe a good solution in some areas where you want to be food or pet safe.

We had a horrible problem with ants several years ago in the kitchen and living room. We had Terminex come out and put bait down and all it did was attract more and more ants. We called them every week and it just got worse. Finally we cleared all the bait and made sure we didn't leave crumbs on the counter or water in the sink and we haven't seen a single ant since. I think that company used the wrong mix of bait where it attracted the ants but didn't kill them. We'll never trust them again.

Try this...

I MaxxPro 2F, I Maxx Pro, Imidacloprid 21.4

I spray it on the ground around the house ONCE a year and no more ants.. Couple of tablespoons mixed with a gallon of water is all it takes.

We had those tiny little ants in our kitchen at our last house. We bought the little hot shot ant baits at Home Depot for like $2.50 each (two in each box), and put those right in the lines of ants that we saw.

For under $10 we didn't see ants for another year, when we did the same thing with the same results... no more ants.
