Does anyone know what is happening with the former Ingles store on Poinsett Hwy? (the one near Lowe's and Cherrydale) There is a huge dumpster out front and demolition happening on the interior of the building but the "For Sale" sign is still posted in front of the property.

Already discussed in the "Ingles" thread below. Nothing has been announced, Property is still for sale. Probably taking it down for safety reasons because the building is in bad shape.
The demolition of the former Ingle's Markets #69 is the third former store site in South Carolina to be demolished. Other former store sites include former store #41 on West Georgia Road in Simpsonville and store #48 on John B. White Sr. Boulevard at East Crescent Road in Spartanburg.
I do not know if there may be any site improvements including grading. There is a grade decline toward Poinsett Highway.
Someone was talking about this today and said that it is possible that Target could be building there. However, I've heard Target thrown around a lot for the Cherrydale area too.

I recall Ingle's Markets does not lease or sale its sites to competitors being food retailers, drugstores, video rental stores, dollar stores, etc. I doubt this site will be used for major retail. Both Cherrydale Point and the Poinsett Highway/Old Buncombe Road interchange are stronger locations for commercial development.
The site could be attractive for density residential use or a place of worship.
My money is on it becoming an apartment complex someday. I agree Knight, No way it becomes a retailer that competes in Ingles categories. Supermarkets hold leases and property all the time to keep another competitor out.
Just rode by there this morning and it's completely leveled and cleared
Curious as to what will go there now.
I believe there is a For Sale sign in front.
