My wife and I made our first trip to GVL in Jan, 2014 during the depth of the year's first polar vortex. Since we're from New England, we were sort of amused by how the locals seemed to huddle for warmth indoors; to us, 30 degrees and sunny was a perfect winter day, so we walked for hours throughout downtown. GVL was the second stop on our "Let's Move South" tour, and as it turned out, our last; we liked the place from the get-go, and on our three subsequent trips became enthralled. Our home here in VT is under contract and a couple of weeks ago we bought a place near Furman Univ, which is where we had scoped out our house-hunting from the beginning. We'll be there in mid-Sept.

This forum has been invaluable to me. The posts are nearly always thoughtful and informative, and have given me a feel for Greenville and the people that I would not have gotten elsewhere. So to everyone who posts here, thanks, and I'll see soon.

Welcome, I hope you and your wife will have a great experience! BTW, I love Vermont! I guess you guys are looking for warmer weather but it would be hard for me to leave Vermont. I loved the PV of 2014 but that sort of thing is pretty rare for us. It is more likely to be in the 60's in the winter than that Good luck!

Congrats on moving to GVL. We are also from New England and we will be moving down spring 2016.

I've loved VT too for most of the 45 years I've lived here. There are a variety of reasons we're leaving, including the long winters (although we're both avid xc skiers and will miss that). Ultimately, we just decided to try some place new. Change is good, or so my wife tells me.
