I'm a single mom from Chicago looking to move possibly to Fort Mill, Greenville, or somewhere near these areas. Looking for input on the areas, schools, activities, etc. I have a young son so I definitely want a place with good schools. I'm looking for a small town type of feel, friendly neighbors, affordable living. Just trying to find a nice area to raise my son. All input would be appreciated! Thanks!

Ft Mill is essentially a suburb of Charlotte - I'd post in the Charlotte sub-forum as well - as for Greenville, there are tons of existing threads to answer your questions - do a search first (upper right)

You can also post in SC under York and Lancaster Counties. Greenville is a good place to raise children. There are good schools here as well. I would check out some the suburbs/towns around Greenville like Greer, Travelers Rest or Simpsonville. Downtown Greer always has something going on for the kids that always has a nice turnout. We always take the grandbaby who is 3. There is a really nice park called Century Park in Greer as well. You can follow the events here: https://www.facebook.com/GreerStation/?fref=ts I don't know as much about other areas but I'm sure they have things going on. It is affordable to live here and there are plenty of activities going on. Psst...the weather here will be soo much better Good luck!

Fort Mill is in York County. I will second the idea to check out the "York and Lancaster Counties" subforum.

York County is experiencing growth in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, and Lake Wylie.

I'd pick Greenville over anywhere in the Charlotte metro easily, and I moved here from Chicago.
