Help my husband find a job in Greenville!!!!
We are a young family of 5 that wants to get out of MI...and move to the Greenville area. My husband works as a millwright (skilled trades), for one of the big 3. What kind of jobs/companies are in the area that he may be able to look for work?? We really want out of the detroit area but cannot leave his job b/c of the benefits until he finds another job. I know the BMW plant is in the area, is it hard to get in there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi 3 and out,
Lot's of skilled trades in the area.BMW is always hiring it seems. Ad's in the want ads every couple of months. The best place to find the type of job he may want is in the GreenvilleOnline.com site. Keep in mind that pay scale down here may not compare with what you all are use to.

Wages are higher... BUT how many people have ever been laid off from the GE plant any time vs the Michelin plant..... I know the answer to that...it's not even close....
As far as BMW.... I can see that facility sticking around ALOT longer than either the GE plant or the Michelin plant(s).
Just my .02

Michelin has many plants all over the region and throughout the state and is a top-notched global company. GE is a very good company to work for as well, and is currently experiencing a tremendous amount of growth with large new contracts recently acquired. BMW is about to announce another large expansion as the plant is being targeted for a much higher annual production volume. Any of these would be great places to work. Don't forget about the large Bosch plant in Anderson County, just off of I-85. Other companies to consider include... Rockwell Automation in Greenville, Hartness International, Inc., and Ryobi Technologies in Anderson - but there are many, many other businesses to consider as well.

BMW is hiring temps at 12 or 13 hourly, and they lay them off first. I was offered one, glad I didn't take it. Compare that to 30 hourly with the growth in wind energy. GE has only had one big layoff and that was during the Enron scandel when a lot of companies closed shop. They have all been called back. GE bought the wind business from Enron. GE has been in Greenville since the 50s and is the 2nd largest company in the world, thats how they pay so well. Do some research. Oh, and BMW associates are leaving and coming to GE. I work with 3 of them that had 10 years at BMW. Ask them which company is best.

Oh, and since GE has been here since the 50s I think BMW has some catching up to do. I have never worked with a company thats been around for over 50 years that didn't lay off. BMW has only been around here for about 10+ years, they have a lot of test ahead of them. I'll take my chances with wind energy and going green. Attacking GE is like attacking me as you can tell, and yourself since you use electricity everyday and its less of a luxury but a neccessity. If it wasn't for power generation you couldn't be typing online Rat.

Yes GE is growing in wind energy..... but I don't think your going to see large scale hiring in Greenville from it.... I do know that there are HUGE plans for the Schenectady, NY location for wind energy.... there is a very large hiring/recruiting action taking place there right now.... for both engineers and hourly production employees....all for wind turbine energy.
