Does anyone know what is happening with the parcel of land by the old Pepsi mural on Poinsett Hwy/Rutherford? (right next to Greenville Furniture Exchange).

They knocked down the building with the mural and are now digging up the paved area with heavy equipment. Looks like a permit board has gone up too...

The site in question is the northwest corner of Poinsett Highway and Shaw Street in the City of Greenville. The structure recently demolished was the remnant of a one-level structure, primarily used for offices, that was destroyed by fire approximately 15 to 20 years ago. The front of the structure was demolished. The remnant likely fell into disrepair and became structurally unsafe.

I wouldn't get excited about this one.

I doubt the single parcel has garnered any interest. If adjacent parcels were acquired, a gas station could be the most likely use.

The old bank next door was razed as well. It looked like it had been taken over by squatters before it was torn down. Their is a construction trailer on site and a EMJ construction sign. From the looks of their website they do some high quality retail and apartments but I'm certainly not getting my hopes up even though that area could use it if they are serious about revitalizing that corridor. My guess on another site was DG could be relocating from across the street to one of their ugly beige slab buildings but hoping not.

Dollar General has moved in the direction of freestanding stores. A replacement for Dollar General #10169, 114 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, South Carolina 29609-5441, could undergo strict aesthetic requirements.

That could be a problem if the City of Greenville has been restricting business like pawn stores, plasma centers, and other "undesirable" businesses from locating along Poinsett Highway.

I have lost all hope for the revitalization of that corridor. Can't it just have nice things?

The Rutherford Street/Poinsett Highway corridor could have nicer businesses. I would dislike to think desired businesses do not want to locate in the specific corridor, and the City of Greenville relaxed its enforcement.
