We will be in Greenville next month and would like some suggestions on downtown restaurants where I could take my wife on our "date night". Maybe you could let us know some of your favorite restaurants?
We like Indian so we want to try Handi's (anyone been?).
But want to avoid chains and plain old steakhouses. The more original, the better.
Also, any lunchtime suggestions where we could take our 3 year old twins. Have read about Barleys Taproom. The advantage there is that at least I could have a good beer while they wreck the place!
WE LOVE SOBY'S. Great food, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere. Liz
I ate there two years ago for my birthday. Never will eat there again. The lamb was tough and undercooked. The waiter looked like he was on crack and would never leave us alone for two seconds. Try Restaurant O instead. Barley's is awesome. One of the best pizza places there is. For a three year old, there is a restaurant next to Falls Park called Overlook Grill. They have pretty good sandwiches and stuff: Overlook Grill
Sorry G-Man your experience was so bad. We have been there more than 10 times, with kids about half, and have never had a bad experience or food. I guess there can be a bad one everywhere though. Liz
Soby's, The Lazy Goat, Restaurant O and all the Table 301 restaurants are also extremely good. I have never had a bad experience at Soby's, but one small complaint would be that they rush you when it's busy there. I hate that, but have learned to manage servers who do this.
Avoid the Overlook Grill, unless you just want a good view and some average appetizers. Our dinner their was a disaster. One of the only meals I've ever had that I would call inedible.
For Lunch, wild wings next door is great for kids, also my now 4 year old loves Bellacino's Pizza & Grinders we like the pizza a lot too!

Chophouse 47 is a great experience that is far from a usual steakhouse Chophouse 47 (broken link)
Bistro 107 Bistro 107 Inc is one OF THE BEST restaurants anywhere. The Husband wife team came from famed taboo in Palm Beach and brought everyone with them including the piano player. A Don't miss location for Date Night!!!

Just remembered to mention another thing. Save Handi for Sunday if you are here over the weekend, but not Handi. 80-90% of Greenville Main St. is closed down on Sunday. Welcome to the Bible Belt.
Blue Ridge Brewery is actually the only restaurant I've been to on Main Street to date. I think it was Crazy Willy's Scotch Ale that went down well that day.
Thanks for the info re Sunday!
On a side related note... can you buy beer in the supermarkets on Sunday?
