Hunting in SC
Please be honest. I am NOT here to judge or start a thread on gun control or eating meat, etc. Yes, I realize people in Boston, New York, Florida and California hunt too. All I want to know is if hunting is popular in Greenville (and Columbia) since I've been noticing a lot of deer heads on the walls when looking at the MLS photos. This isn't something I see a lot of around here, but I don't travel much in the more rural areas.
I totally freak out if I see someone shoot an animal, so I just want to know if I need to stay in the city to avoid running into this all the time. For example, how common is it to see a deer on the back of a truck as you're driving down the road? I saw this once in a while when I lived in NH, but never in Boston or the surrounding suburbs.
Just curious, since it might affect my decision to move to an area. Thanks for your responses.

Being inside the city of Greenville isn't much of a help. There was a group of men this fall in the park near our house inside the city limits of Greenville with rifles out pointed up to the trees. We came walking around the corner, they all put their guns down, got in their truck and drove off. When we finished our loop of a walk, we saw them returning to the park. I never heard gunshots.
I did hear gunshots one other day - from our next door neighbor. I peaked out as he was putting some dead thing in his truck.
People hunt here.

Yes, there are plenty of people who do hunt here. It is very unlikely to see dead deer, however. I mean, even if someone has it in the back of their truck you probably won't see it. Nobody drives around with dead animals on their roof rack or anything. It really shouldn't have any affect on your decision to move here.

Most experienced hunters (myself included) gut their deer in the field, so its rare to see one tacked on to a truck...I'm not vegetarian, nor will I ever be, but I can understand where you are coming from with not wanting to see dead deer. Although, to tell you the truth you shouldn't decide against moving here for that reason alone, its a great place to live.

Thanks to all for your comments. I only wanted to get some ideas about the area. When I lived in NH, my next door neighbor shot 2 of my "pet" squirrels who came around for peanuts, because they once gnawed on his clothesline, so I am not stereotyping SC. He was an alcoholic, so imagine the combination - a drunk with a shotgun! As I wrote on the Columbia board, I'm originally from MA where they've always had "controlled" deer kills in areas like Crane's Beach in Ipswich to thin out the herds. So, believe me, I know people shoot animals. It's just not something I want to see or hear around my neighborhood.

Hunting in Cola and G'Ville
I had to laugh (not at you) when I saw that you noticed deer heads on the MLS. Unless you're looking for a home in the "country", I find that most homeowners here (S'Ville/G'Ville) don't go hunting for the most part. DOn't fear living here...just hang around the suburbs and the city and you'll not run into any hunting!

hunting
I laughed also but not at you. Don't feel bad--I was showing a home the other day and when we went into the den there were 5 deerheads staring me in the face. I was not feeling the love either. I grew up in the country (here) and my family members did a lot of hunting. I can honestly say that I have never seen a deer in the back of a truck and I have lived here all of my life.

I've seen more deer dead on the sides of the road than in homes.
