United Community Bank moving Greenville HQ to One building
Four years ago, United Community Bank had no employees in Greenville. Now, between corporate offices and retail banks, there are 344.
Forty-five of those employees, including Chief Operating Officer Lynn Harton, are moving to a new office space in the One building on North Main Street, with room to add 30 more employees. The Greenville-based specialty lending department will be in the One building, as will be the chief credit officer, chief information officer and positions in the financial, human resources and mortgage departments.
The space used to belong to Certus Bank, which closed its expansive downtown Greenville headquarters and sold most of its operations in 2015. The more than 20,000 square feet of office space that United Community Bank will occupy is only part of what Certus vacated in the One building; another portion is occupied by creative co-working space Endeavor.
There is little the bank needs to do to make the space their own; since the previous tenant also was a bank, the cubicles and furniture that were left behind fit easily into United Community Bank's office structure. The space's glass-walled offices and dark-stained wood cubicles look out onto near-panoramic views of downtown Greenville.
The move will help accommodate the bank's continued growth. More than 100 new employees have been added in the past two years — 53 in 2015 and 57 since January 2016. The specialty lending department, started in Greenville less than three years ago, has grown to handle $1 billion in loan volume.
