I have noticed rude and impaired motorists in the Greenville area. The group consists of motorists talking on their cell phones instead of driving motor vehicles, motorists driving slow in the left lanes on four-lane corridors, motorists driving with ultra high beam lights on at night, and motorists not completely stopping when you have right-of-way.
I find this odd too as I am always impressed that drivers let me merge easily on the expressways. I do think we have a lot of distracted drivers, but that is everywhere.
Someone does not know how to do a survey if they think SC drivers are the second rudest. Just go into NJ and NYC to see what rudeness is. I used to live there for a few years and did not know how aggressive I had become in order to adapt and survive there.
I have been there a few times since moving to SC and have come to realize how awful their driving is. Here, if I find someone trying to merge on a highway, I usually slow them or move to the center lane and allow them to merge. In NJ I found a Mercedes accelerate just to prevent me from merging. And I was driving a minivan, not a Ferrari.
I have had people honk when I stopped for an extra second to allow people get on the road from a strip mall road in NJ. Things I have not seen happen in SC. So no way is SC anywhere as rude as drivers in the North-East.
Not sure how you quantify this, but we do not have the second rudest drivers. Not even close...
