Let's compare what we're paying for Upstate waste pickup and what services they provide to see what's the best deal.
Waste Industries:
$108 every three months for weekly trash and yard waste, and biweekly recycling pickup. Their prices have jumped significantly over the last few years.
I started with Kellett's and then stayed on when Waste Industries took over, through frequent cost increases and added fees, including a charge for sending me a bill! I finally got disgusted and switched to Kirby's, cutting my quarterly bill from $94.26 to $66.00, including bi-weekly recycling pickup (but not yard waste). I am very pleased with my decision. The trucks aren't as fancy, but the job gets done at a fair price.
When I lived in Greenville I had Palmetto Waste. Our subdivision negotiated with them for $40 a quarter. Don't know if it went up. If you are in a subdivision it might save money to have your Homeowners Association negotiate a contract if most of the homes switch over.
We used to have a local company that charged $45 every three months. They sold to Waste Industries. The price has stayed the same but I expect it will increase now that they have eliminated their competition in the market. Much preferred to give my money to a local company where all of the profits stayed in the local economy.
Had Waste Management since moving into our house 4 years ago. Got tired of the fuel surcharge, administrative fee, and general price increases and just recently gave up at ~$90/quarter. Switched to Kirby and haven't received a bill yet but supposed to be $51/quarter.

I haven't heard of Palmetto but I know Kirby's prices are comparable.
