I'm actually surprised someone hasn't gone out to Hwy 101 and Woodruff Rd and started building up a retail center out there it seems like a logical place to build something with all the housing that is going further and further out on woodruff.

There is more development around Highway 101 South and Reidville Road than there is at Highway 101 South and Highway 146 North. A supermarket-anchored retail center was proposed for the northwest quadrant of Highway 101 South and Reidville Road over a decade ago.

The Woodruff Road/Bennett's Bridge Road intersection will be redone when South Carolina Highway 296 is widened to four lanes from Woodruff Road to South Carolina Highway 290.

Yeah I could see Bennett's Bridge and 101 being a better location now that you say that. Either way I'm surprised walmart hasn't put their grubby little claws out there.

I think the the projected grocer for the grocery-anchored retail center at Highway 101 South and Reidville Road was supermarket BI-LO. BI-LO had selected sites in North Carolina and South Carolina for future store locations in the early 2000's, and cancelled plans for those stores.

The trade area needs more residences with disposable income before there is a need for another supermarket.

The corner of Woodruff Rd and 14 appears to be a prime example of a greedy developer finally greasing enough new palms on County Council and Christ Church School to get his way. Area residents sure didn't want it. It had been voted down several times before. Just what we need, another grocery store and shops at an already congested intersection. Way to go County Council ! I hope you hear from us on re-election day.

It has nothing to do with Christ Church Episcopal School. The school involved is Southside Christian School. Your insinuation that unethical practices or bribery occurred between the developer and/or the school and county council is inflammatory and rude.

The poster may have gotten the church wrong, but Southside Christian had opposed every other development there. Then the developer offers the school part of land for free and they are all sudden in support of the development, calling it a gift from god. Not sure what else you could call that other than straight up bribery. As for the county council it sounds like another case of prid quo pro that is rampant in politics at all levels.

I'm looking forward to trying out the new Sprouts. I can sympathize with those who groan about more retail on Woodruff. However, if this store keeps the folks who live down in Five Forks from driving all the way up to Whole Foods then it might actually be a benefit.
