SE Grocers (Bilo), has half of its billion dollar debt due next summer. At this point the holders of that debt will decide the fate of Bilo. This go around, the Bilo flag will most likely be lowered for the last time since their customer base is eroding.

Southeastern Grocers' financial and performance issues could result in the closure of BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harvey's, and Winn-Dixie stores and departures from several markets. BI-LO has issues competing against supermarkets Harris Teeter, Ingle's, Kroger, Publix, and Walmart Neighborhood Market; hypermarkets SuperTarget and Walmart Supercenter; limited assortment/discount grocer Aldi; wholesale clubs Costco and Sam's Club; and specialty organic/gourmet grocers Earth Fare, The Fresh Market, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods Market.

I used to like BI-LO back when they were owned by Ahold. Now they have just gone downhill, and no longer have a local headquarters in Greenville, as they moved operations to Jacksonville, Florida to combine with Winn-Dixie. But I still stop by BI-LO periodically to purchase Chek Cola, which is a good Winn-Dixie product always on sale.

BI-LO was successful under Ahold indeed by better operations and better performance. Under Lone Star Funds, BI-LO has turned 180 degrees southward.

I 've been visiting bi lo more Lately. Less crowded and smaller than Walmart. Fresh fried chicken is delicious there and easy to get and go. I also agree with Tyler on the chek cola. 25 cents a can and good.

They also have a good bakery selection (low cost) and their lunch meat is decent. Better than Walmart.

A BI-LO being less crowded than a Walmart Neighborhood Market or a Walmart Supercenter is not surprising. BI-LO has lost business and customers to Walmart.

The quality of Southeaster Grocers' products have not been good lately. The milk has been sour in recent years.

We have never had a gallon of milk from BiLo be sour, and we go through a lot of milk. In fact, I cant think of anything in the last 8 or 9 years that there was a problem with.
