I second and third the recommendation of Travelers Rest!

There are also some possible housing locations right around Paris Mountain on, I believe, 153 -- it's just a hop and a skip down to the Cherrydale area.

I also actually like the Cherrydale area for housing -- there are some older houses [Clarendon Avenue] but it may not be a nice enough area.

Another area I'd recommend is right around Furman University [that's between Travelers Rest and the Cherrydale/Poinsett/North Pleasantburg area of Greenville] -- still puts you very very close to Paris Mountain and also the Swamp Rabbit Trail [I run through Furman every week on the SRT].

I believe there is a Y in Travelers Rest. And I have heard that the fitness center at Furman is open to non-student members.

If you don't absolutely *have* to have a gym right next door, you might consider the Kroc Center, downtown Greenville -- it is quite nice and also has tennis.

We've tried to look at all the lake areas. Lake Robinson does sound familiar from our search. Do you know if it is a quiet lake or is it an all activities type of lake? I will look more into it. My son will be looking for work as a police officer/firefighter so I'll have to check the proximity to possible areas for him to find work.

Thanks.

It's very quiet. No swimming or gas powered boats. https://www.greercpw.com/lakes-recreation

Gas powered boats are allowed, but with a 10 horsepower limit.

Thanks for the correction I knew there was some restriction.

Thanks Beckycat and Mushcreek for that info. Are there any lakes nearby that allow jet skis and boats with more horsepower or are we limited to Robinson?

No lake is not a dealbreaker, but we just thought it would be nice.

I have to admit, I'm a little nervous to move. We don't have any friends or family in SC. We are leaving my family in NY.

Lake Jocassee allows boats and has ramps at Devil's Fork State Park. Beautiful in the summer!

Not sure Lake Jocassee is in our price range, but worth looking at. Thanks.

Not many folks can live on Jocassee (a lot of the lakefront is reserve) but it is an easy drive from anywhere in the Greenville area.

Lakefront property is pretty expensive everywhere, especially 'usable' waterfront where you can have a dock and actually access the lake. Jocassee is one of a chain of lakes including Keowee and Hartwell. They are a bit of a ride from Greenville- at least 45 minutes. Lake Bowen is over closer to Spartanburg. I don't know much about it other than I see lots of boats on it. We considered lakefront, but it was way out of our price range.
