Though my Mom has been playing this game for over 50 years, and has always wanted me to learn, I've never been interested, it looked so complicated when I saw her play.

But, I decided to finally learn so I can surprise her when she returns in the summer. I played my first learners game yesterday. I went up to Hendersonville to learn.

Does anyone in the GVL area play Mah Jongg?? Does anyone know any games going on in the Greer area? As I become better (wishful hoping) I'm hoping to find others in the area that would want to play.

Would anyone be interested in learning? Each person would need to buy a card which is $8 for the 2018 card which comes out end of March available through the National Mah Jongg Organization. One complete game is needed for each group of up to 4 players.

Anyone??? Trying to see if there's any interest out there.

If you have a smart phone or computer, you can probably gain a lot of the experience you want by playing online.

The Newcomer's Club has a regular game. Congregation Beth Israel just started one as well.

Seems I wouldn't qualify for the Newcomer's Club, but I will look and see what's going on at the Temple. I'm no where near ready to play with the seasoned players, but hopefully, not too far in the future, I will.

Thank you!!!

It’s great fun — I was in a group in VA but we did more gossiping and drinking wine than seriously playing. Lol

We’re in Spartanburg so too far to join your group. Good luck forming a group though!

I played as a kid. My family had a nice set. I don't remember much about it except that it was a very complicated game sort of like rummy (it involves trying to sets of different kinds of tiles). Of course we played without the gambling aspect since we were just kids.

I found the Temple, emailed someone, then realized, it's a temple in another state. Couldn't find a thing for the temple here in GVL.

But that is what MUST make it such a fun game.

Spartanburg isn't far at all. I'm there quite often, would rather go there to shop than on Woodruff Rd. If it wasn't for TJ's, I'd never go on Woodruff!

Must have been smart kids!!!!

I'm hopeful I will learn before my mom returns this summer. I was told I did well for a first timer yesterday.

Will keep plugging away.
