And that kind of tolerance and friendliness is what I would expect no matter where we moved. I just can't for the life of me figure out why these people are allowed to post on City Data forums, given their attitudes against people moving to THEIR towns. It is no help at all, and when you don't know much about the area you are researching it makes for a VERY bad impression. Isn't there a moderator to weed out the bad seeds?

I forgot to post this before, but I found this site not too long ago, and maybe some of you have already seen it too. I think it's a nice little site about Greenville. I just like to read through it about once a week.

I have followed the Harrymans' downtown adventures since the site was originally launched. Denton is an amazing man, posting so many photos of life in Greenville.

If we move down there and you treat us like "Damn Yankees", how do you expect us to respond? Now if you really aren't as "friendly" as you all claim to be, I just may change my mind about this move. We are looking to IMPROVE our quality of life, not revisit the civil war. I'm certainly not going to be such a jerk that I would come down there and call YOU a redneck, so how about a little bit of respect on your end?

Well, I hate to tell you but there are. But once you come here they'll probably just live with it and be nice to you.
I don't blame you for wanting to come here. You gotta eat like everybody else.
We have been so friendly which is sort of a problem in it's own way because it makes everyone move here and soon people won't e friendly because it'll be a big city. Whether you mean to or not, you do influence the South's culture. Also, while you may be nice and polite and have no problem with the South, your kids might not be so civil and label everything "redneck". That and if they are the ones other kids want to fit in with, kids from the South may follow.
I'm not a redneck. Yankees seem to think redneck refers to anyone from the South. Not true, there are rednecks everywhere in the US. But because redneck has a derogatory meaning to many, a lot of people will stay away from Southern things labeled redneck.
By the way, I've said nothing that deserves a moderator to give me some sort of warning.
No offense to you, and you might be a great person but it'd suit me fine if you didn't move here.

Guestposter24, no offense to you, but your mission on this forum is clear. You do show great disrespect to completely innocent people looking for a better life in our city. You have placed yourself and your own little bubble of a world on an imaginary elite pedestal that you think should be kept "safe" from the rest of the world, which is a scary idea to consider.
ShabbyChick, I understand that a person like guestposter24 is a highly repulsive bigot, but you should not be so easily swayed by his lonely, ill-mannered and negative comments directed toward you. He is apparently either a part of or no different than the tiny remnant of the intolerant old south, complete with every stereotype that comes with the title. It is people like this who have given our state a bad reputation - and it only takes one of them to set off the alarm. It is also people like this who would rather see things remain unchanged instead of progression to a better way of life for every resident. Have no fear for the future of our wonderful cultural melting pot. Greenville is on the cutting edge of positive change and we have our thousands of transplants from all parts of the globe to thank for that. No impudent individual stuck in the past will keep this city from surging forward to attain our lofty and visionary goals.

Skyliner, It is posters like you that help to bring newcomers into the area to see if it is as nice as you say. You do an excellent job of acting as an ambassador for your city. It also helps to balance out the reputation of the area because if all we could read is the small-minded opinions of people like guestposter then nobody would bother to come there. I know that no growth and no progress is just what he/she wants, but there seem to be more people like yourself posting who actually live in the 21st century and are not afraid of change.
My very first trip to Greenville was based soley on the pictures that you posted. Keep up the good work.

I blame no one for wanting to come here. I just don't like when they do. Whether they mean to or not it affects the Southerness.

Not nice. I live in S.E. Michigan. I remember in the 70's when all the southerners were moving up here to get work- I could say something derogatory about that but won't-. We treated them like anyone else, with respect. When the auto Co's started moving plants down south it took alot of jobs away from us. Well a number of people moved down south for the work and were not treated nice to say the least. You mention "southerness."
From your statement and the info I got from people that came back to Michigan, I don't want any part of that "southerness." thank you.

Wow, you certainly are a pleasant person, aren't you? That chip on your shoulder must be pretty heavy! Believe it or not, we actually know quite a few southerners here in Northern Michigan, and guess what...we like them! Some are actually friends of ours, if you can believe that! Maybe it's because they refer to us as FRIENDS, rather than "Yankees"? We rude "northerners" tend to accept people based on who they are, rather than WHERE they come from. And we try to get to KNOW people, rather than just "smile and put up with them". I must say, I've never come across someone with quite as much "Southern Charm" as you. ~Thanks for the warning!

P.S. guestposter24
You won't have to worry about our children calling you a redneck. You see, they are pretty perceptive, and are more likely to just call you a jerk. We've taught them well.

got to watch that shabbychick. that is when a moderator will step in and ban you from posting. when you make the "personal" attacks. people are allowed, and should be, to speak their mind on these forums as long as they don't name names. I got a warning from some moderator for saying that someone sounded like a desperate real estate agent! guestposter is a bit bitter about people moving to the south. he represents about 5% of people in the south. so, they're out there but you don't really have to worry about them. they have no basis for their bitterness.
