I got a warning from some moderator for saying that someone sounded like a desperate real estate agent! guestposter is a bit bitter about people moving to the south. he represents about 5% of people in the south. so, they're out there but you don't really have to worry about them. they have no basis for their bitterness.
Makes me wonder if these trolls are actually "strategically" placed on these forums just to stir the pot. You know "keep things interesting".

Just so I know I'm understanding you...calling someone a jerk is cause for banning, yet referring to us as "rude northerner's" and "damn Yankees" is perfectly acceptable? Guess I have to get used to City-Data's idea of decorum. I noticed someone called him/her a bigot. I guess that isn't personal.

Not sure how my original post about a nice weekend in Greenville has turned into this.

Well a number of people moved down south for the work and were not treated nice to say the least. You mention "southerness."
From your statement and the info I got from people that came back to Michigan, I don't want any part of that "southerness." thank you.
Which region of the US sticks out the most? Midwest or the South?

I'm sorry your friends were treated badly when they got here but I think there's a whole lot more they could affect here than in Michigan.

I just want to say that based on everything I've said here is really not a good factor to judge me on. I think I've come off as too aggressive. I'm not a troll.

Look everybody, I do not have any problems with any Yankees (yes, a term which many refer to themselves as). I may have a problem with an individual from the North but not as a whole. By the way I never said "damn Yankees" or "rude northerners" to the best of my knowledge. I am just saddened by the fact that all of the small things in life are dying. I really hold no ill will towards outsiders.

I'm getting tired of being called a bigot when I'm not acting like one.

haha. deepblue, it's guestposter stirring the pot. rude northerer, and yankee are pretty generic terms. it depends on the moderator. there was a thread about how great the weather was in raleigh. some person did a post a couple of weeks ago bragging about how it was 80 degrees and they were on their deck wearing shorts and this and that it was directed at people in new england who are looking to relocate. I had a reply that said, I hope the people in maine post something bragging about how it's 80 degrees in august when it's 110 in raleigh. I got a warning for attempting to hijack a thread. then another person put a thread giving an incredible glowing review of raleigh and was basically begging people to relocate. I said that it sounded like a desperate real estate agent. I got a point for a "personal attack." it was by the same moderator too. it's strange how this site works. the best way to get to guestposter and his southern traditions is to bring up the catawba indians and if they enjoyed the southern hospitality and traditions.

I'm not stirring the pot and the Catawba Indians happened before the Civil War.

I used the literal dictionary definition to label what was obvious at the time based upon his own disrespectful and intolerant language used on this forum. If he had shown even a small amount of respect and sincere tolerance for everyone else sharing this forum, he wouldn't have to face such stiff criticism from caring and knowledgeable local citizens like me. I am trying to represent Greenville in as positive and accurate a way as possible, knowing that such negativity as shown by a few lonely individuals like guestposter24 usually is all it takes to scare people away from even taking a closer look, much less actually deciding to visit and possibly moving here. One small voice of unreason and ambiguous misinformation is enough to sour any southern city's image and play into the negative stereotypes that have been used to plague this region of the nation for decades. People need extra reassurance that this is not the way we are today. Though not perfect (what city has ever achieved that status?), we are a truly tolerant melting pot of individuals from all cultures and belief systems. It takes every person doing what they do and contributing in some way to the local society to make this a prosperous and enjoyable place to live. Opposition and debate among the citizenry is a healthy element of any democratic society, however it must not be founded on selfish illegitimacy and/or bigotry.

I don't think you have been so accurate IMHO. You have tried to make it out as better than it is.
I don't think the guy who wrote into the paper saying religious diversity is a creation of the devil was very tolerant nor the kid with the KKK shirt at Bryson Middle this week. Now these are two extremes but there is a lot of people who are like this on a much lesser scale.

I will try to be more careful with my posts though.

I could pull (create) random people from thin air and use them just as easily to make my points for me, but I don't believe in fabricating lies to support my beliefs, and in fact I need none to make my point since so many others on this forum and elsewhere have spoken in support.
