It would be nice to see a professional association football/soccer club locate in Greenville.
I am reading the United Soccer League's criteria for expansion:
Quote:
Employing the successful methodology utilized by the USL to establish the largest professional soccer league in North America, the USL Division III expansion efforts center on markets with:
Strong local ownership
Primary owner with a net worth in excess of $10 million and 35% or greater share of the potential franchise
Soccer-specific stadia
Seating Capacity: 3,500
Pitch Size: 110 yards x 70 yards
Viable market size and support
Markets with a population between 150,000 to one million and a strong corporate and fan base for support
I wonder where the team could play. My initial guesses would be Sirrine Stadium, 100 Cleveland Street, Greenville, South Carolina 29601-3722; at Furman University; or a new soccer-specific stadium.
Greenvilleās pro team will make many significant announcements in the coming weeks and months in preparation for the 2019 campaign, including stadium plans, official team branding, coaching staff additions and more.
Where the team plays and what the team's name is should be the next announcements.
Many soccer clubs named are FC [location], [location] FC, or [location] United. I would like Greenville's team to have a unique branding. What should be the name of Greenville's team?
Stone Stadium, Greenville High's Sirrine Stadium and the Greenville Drive's Fluor Field are mentioned as possible home locations by the USL.

I'm surprised Alumni Stadium at BJU hasn't been mentioned yet. Their soccer stadium seems to fit the criteria, and is within city limits. Although, the selling of alcohol beverages on campus probably would be an issue for a Christian University.
I think it is likely it will play at Furman's stadium.
The only issue is the Greenville FC is playing there. It is kind of weird Greenville had announcements for two soccer teams in the same month.
