Smile Aiken or Anderson

Hi everyone.

My husband and I are considering a move to South Carolina. There are jobs in his field in many small cities, it's hard to know where to start looking. From the research I've done, Aiken and Anderson look like a nice fit for us. We have one little boy who is 4, so we want something family-friendly. We're not into partying so great night-life isn't that important. Does anyone have any suggestions on either town or maybe a different town to recommend? any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

We've been to both & relocated to Anderson. Aiken has a beautiful downtown but seemed almost a suburb of Augusta. Anderson is revitalizing their downtown & it's only about 30 min to Greenville without the congested traffic. You get more for your money in housing in Anderson over Aiken also. You should really go to both personally and check them out.

Aiken and Anderson both are rapidly sprawling, tons of people flooding into the area. I find that Aiken caters to two specific age groups, the college aged kids, and the retirees/elderly. Sure there are some mixed in between, but still, there are two main groups. Anderson has a much more general mix, very family oriented, and there's usually plenty to do. Both towns are located about a half hour from larger cities (Augusta and Greenville respectively). Greenwood (about halfway between Greenville and Augusta) should also be on your list.

I strongly recommend securing a job BEFORE moving, please don't make the same mistake that so many before you have.

I tend to disagree with the previous post. Aiken is very diverse. It is a lovely town with plenty to do for every age group....plus it couldn't be more charming
