...the median and interchange lighting along I-85 in the western part of Greenville County? With the gas tax increase, you would think they could find some money to fix this. Not sure why they ever wasted my tax dollars installing these in the first place if they're not going to keep them on.
Interstate 85 from the Saluda River bridge/Anderson County line to south of mile marker 48 should be in position to be widened from six to eight lanes. This segment was widened from four to six lanes twenty years ago.

Would cost almost as much, of not more, to repair them than they cost new.

with the pace that SCDOT's operates, I expect this to start in 2030 (not kidding) - the Laurens Road/85 interchange (at MM48) is expected to finally begin construction/reconfiguration in 2024 (yes...2024) - one of the most dangerous on/off ramps (for a major interstate) I've ever seen in a developed country
W. Georgia Road Bridge over the Reedy River will be replaced starting next year. Bids go out in December, contract signed in January and work scheduled to start March/April. Should last about a year. W. Georgia will be closed from Rocky Creek to Sullivan Road except for local traffic.

That road closure is going to be a nightmare with all of the traffic that uses that route. While they are disrupting the traffic, they should go ahead and put in a 4 lane bridge but the SCDOT doesn't have that level of forward thinking. That section of W. Georgia road has enough traffic to support 4 lanes and it will just continue to increase.

At least your interstates have the capability to be lit.

They really need to do something with the interchange for SC-153. Traffic in the evening often backs up a significant distance onto I-85, creating a risk for accidents. They also need to close off left turns into Burger King / Cracker Barrel / etc. right at that interchange because people currently get to the top of the exit ramp and stop until they can cross 2 lanes of traffic to turn, which causes some of the backup issues onto I-85.
A lot of traffic enters and exits there so it would be a logical place to have the additional lane leave I-85 as an exit only lane.
My suggestions for improving Interstate 85 Exit 40:
Relocate Frontage Road northwest to McNeely Road.
Add a loop from South Carolina Highway 153 northbound to Interstate 85 southbound.
Eliminate left turns on South Carolina Highway 153 onto Interstate 85 northbound and southbound.
Improve the exit ramp from Interstate 85 southbound to South Carolina Highway 153. A traffic signal would be added.
