That is a little confusing, staceya - do you mean eastside as in the Eastside (the area between Greenville and Greer) or eastside meaning east of Greer (Spartanburg Co.) ?

We lived in Detroit suburbs and have lived in several areas in Greenville suburbs. I hate them all. Still searching for the nice neighborhood that I know is out there. Never before in my life have I encountered so much disrespect for others, such racism, and such gang warfare as I have here. I miss Detroit for those reasons. Would move back in a heartbeat.

Wow, I grew up in the Detroit area, and it is a very racially divided city with a lot of bigots on both sides. They just won't talk about it in polite company is all.

I'm sorry you're having such a bad experience, kumquat There's a house for sale in my neighborhood! I can't vouch for people not being racist, but they certainly don't advtertise it if they are (it's a mixed neighborhood, so it would really be very awkward if anybody was openly racist), and there is most definitely no gang activity here!

How many heartbeats have passed since you decided that you would rather live in Detroit? Don't waste your life by broadly bashing and living unhappily. You can be happy anywhere, if you really try, and since no place is perfect or free from crime, achieving that sometimes takes dedicated individual effort. It seems that most people who move here are indeed very happy and excited enough to encourage others they know to do the same. If you oddly find it impossible to be happy here, then don't hesitate moving to a place where you know you will find contentment.

We are moving from NJ to Greenville and these posts are soooooooooooooo helpful. We are also moving site unseen and looking to rent a house. Any suggestions on realtors to work with? Thanks for the insight and honesty about Greenville area!
