First hummer just sighted. Last year it was on May 31s t, not to say they weren't around earlier and I just didn't see them Feeder was out. This year trying Feeder Fresh to see how that may help keep the nectar fresher. Love the Nectar Fortress for keeping the ants away. Wish there was something to keep the wasps from trying to feed on the feeder.

Still looks like only the same bird, but he's making regular trips now.

It’s 8:00 and I’m in the den drinking my morning cup of coffee. I opened the screen at my back door to hear the beautiful morning rain and the birds singing. What do I hear? The unmistakable sonation of our first hummingbird of the season. I looked up and there it was. They are back. What a beautiful way to begin the Lord’s day!

We finally got a feeder out yesterday, and had a visitor within hours. He/she worked the feeder all day.

In years past I have seen them come sporadically for a couple days then nothing noted for a couple months. I note this on my calendar each year. I then note when I see them regularly, which isn't til summer. I haven't seen a hummer since the other days sighting, not to say they aren't coming since I haven't been home during the day much, but don't see the nectar going down as I would usually see if they were feeding normally. Will keep watch!!!

I’ve not seen any yet but the nectar is going down. Visitors or evaporation? idk.

We did see our first gold finch yesterday. Looking forward to seeing hummingbirds, too!

She will be green, while he will be black with a bright ruby red throat.

It's a he, then. We had two of them hanging around yesterday. I noticed the same thing- sporadic activity until much later in the season.

Lynchburg- We have goldfinches all winter at our feeders. They have dull plumage in the winter, though. Then, they molt into their 'party clothes' before they migrate north to breed. The only birds around here to do so, AFAIK.

Oh, now that we’re retired and have free time, we’re just learning about birds. Thanks!

Has anyone done any of the bird walks at FENCE? Are they worth the drive?
