Cool Moving South

My husband and I are pre-retirement age and have been to Greenville several times. We love the feel of the downtown and what it has to offer. We don't know what part of the city or suburbs we would like to start looking for a home. We originally wanted a golf community, but they are all too expensive. We would like to be on or around a golf course, my husband still needs good access to the airport. Schools are not an issue for us, but meeting people around our age would be a plus. Any suggestions to a golf course we could start looking, wooded lots or a lake/mountain view?
Thanks for giving us a starting point.

Some areas to research:

Taylors in Greenville Co. Areas near Lake Robinson. You'd be near the mountains and would have 2 golf courses to choose from. One is Sugar Creek and the other would be up at Cliffs Valley. Sugar Creek would be much cheaper to play at! The areas around Lake Robinson are booming. There is a new 3000 home subdiv going up there called Blue Ridge Plantation. You'd be able to find a home within your price range there. Several builders are in that subdiv. So you won't have just one builder to choose from. Homes are starting at $180K and will go up to $500K or so. I do know that across the street from Blue Ridge Plantation there will eventually be a retirement community on Lake Robinson. I know the developer who bought that land. He is planning on 50-75 homes on the lake. Not sure what his price range will be. My husband is a builder and is building across the lake in a new subdiv there and those houses are $400K and up.

Another good area is Ealsey, SC in Anderson Co. We aren't near the mountains, but there are several good golf courses in the area. Housing is also affordable and property taxes are cheaper. We're about 15 min from downtown Greenville.

My in-laws live in Seneca. My father-in-law is a big golfer and is a member of several country clubs down there. His favorite is the Clemson Walker course. Seneca is near Lake Hartwell. Housing on the lake has gotten expensive. (The lot next to my in-laws just sold for over $1 million) So, if you'd want a place on or near the lake, you'd pay a little more.

Some good local realtors: C. Dan Joyner and Cindy Fox Miller.

Hope this helps some!!

Carol, may I ask, why up in the Greenville Area and not in the Lowcountry SC??

We have tons of golf courses, lots of sports, arts and culture in Charleston, Beaufort. Lovely Beaches, historical sites, great weather, affordable housing, and lots of retirees and services for retirees.

Look at Mt Pleasant; Summerville;Beaufort area.

Let me give you a website www.springisland.com

Default Moving to Greenvile

My husband and I are semi-retiring in Greenville from Ohio, and hope to be there by this fall. We spent last weekend there looking at builders models and subdivisions. I would like some insight and opinions on our searches.
What is the reputation of Eastwood Homes?
The subdivision with that builder that we liked best was Planter Row off Ashmore Bridge Rd, by the Shriners Country Club. Is this area going to get all the crazy Woodruff Rd traffic? Or is it far enough away from the conjestion? I was not crazy about that traffic area. Is this address still Simpsonville? What golf courses are in this area at a reasonable price?
Thanks for your help.
