Question Anyone moved from the Pacific Northwest to Greenville area?

My husband and I are looking at the possiblity of moving to Greenville for a new job. We are living now in Southern Oregon (Medford/Ashland area) and wondered if there are any other transplants to the south that might share their experience. Here we're surrounded by mountains and live in an old Craftsman home within walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants, library, etc.

Anyone done the big west coast to east coast move that's willing to share their experience?

Hi Rosearamma!

You may notice when reading a few other threads, that you are not alone at all. There have indeed been relocations (transplants) from the Pacific Northwest and there are in fact a few on this forum who are currently considering that same decision as well. Let us know what information you are looking for and we will certainly attempt to be helpful in every way possible.

Hey Rosearamma!
I'm one of those considering a move from Seattle that Skyliner was referring to.
Unfortuneately, I have not visited yet, so I can't give you much information in respect to first hand experience, but I have to tell you......THESE people on this forum in Greenville are some of the nicest, friendliest, helpful people I have every encountered (except for my fellow Canadians! )
I'm originally from the East Coast of Canada.

I have been researching a great place to live for over a year now. I have literally checked out every state in USA and every province in Canada......and everything about the quality of life and the people in Greenville, SC just seems like it feels right.

I have yet to move there......but everyone on here is so helpful, I feel like I have already moved there. I've done lots of research and throughly checked out other states, etc.
They all have their pros and cons, and Greenville may not be right for everyone because "There is a cover for every pot".

I think Greenville is my cover!

Search this forum and you will get lots of information and lovely photos, videos, etc.
Good luck!

Hi,

My wife and I are also considering Greenville. We are in Seattle.
We will be visiting in May, and will give a full report when we return.

I'm from New Brunswick, originally! Have you ever been there?
You are right......I should have said most people in the south and on this forum are nice......with the exception of a few who have a negative attitude about everything (they are everywhere).....but I just ignore them

I moved from the Pacific Northwest(Everett,WA to be exact) to Greenwood,SC(not Greenville, but close). I was 6 years old and it was kind of shocking for me. For starters, when I look back, the Greenwood area looked rather poor and country. The PNW IMO was more laid back and calmer. South Carolina just looked very rural and the accent was the biggest detail I noticed. Having been born in New Orleans and lived in Texas before moving to the PNW, I never heard a southern accent until I started the first grade in South Carolina. My own experience was a culture shock. Sure there were friendly people there, but the culture adjustment was kind of odd.

Greenville and Greenwood are on completely different levels in most aspects of life. If someone is interested in Greenville, I would certainly NOT advise them to search for information about Greenwood. For those who don't know yet, Greenwood is an hour drive straight south of Greenville on U.S. 25. It is relatively alone/removed in that part of the Upstate.

Of all the 'major' cities in South Carolina (Generally, in SC we think of Columbia, Charleston, Spartenburg, Greenville as our 'big' towns) Greenville is likely the best fit for most folks from different areas of the county like the PNW. Greenville, in my experience, is culturally more progressive than other areas of the state. While the prevailing political tone is rather conservative, their is quite a broad palate of perspectives and (unlike some other areas in the state) folks seem to coexist very well in Greenville. It is a very friendly city, has a multitude of good resaurants and a downtown area that is nice and continues to move in the right direction. The beautiful natural surroundings (The Blue Ridge escarpment, Wonderful lakes nearby etc.) also cannot be ignored. I think you might find Greenville a pleasant place for someone from the PNW, or any area for that matter.
