There are several hotels around the Haywood Rd or Woodruff Rd Area and 385. I'd recommend one of those hotels as far as a centrall located spot. From there you'd be an Exit away from 85 if you needed to go either directon that way, and 385 would take you down to Simpsonville.
I haven't stayed at any of the hotels in Greenville, but I've found the user reviews on Orbitz.com are usually very accurate, plus Orbitz is usually the best price. You could pull up Orbitz for that area and see the different price ranges and read reviews on the places.

Yes, I live in a subdivision....(from my knowledge) most of the newer ones, unless you get in to $350-400k+ ones, have smaller lots. I think some of the older, more established subdivisions have larger with maybe slightly cheaper homes. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

Depending on where you want to live in simpsonville If Westwood subdivison which is older community maybe around 90,000 to 130,000
Or off Davenport rd near fairview there are communities there built around 1996 which are about 150,000 and up. It seems like prices are not to bad right now .. Taxes range from 700- 1300 a year.
Hope this helps

I currently work in one of the local school districts - In Administration/Business Office and I have a degree in Managment. Not sure if you can answer this, its all so new to me, but is that the norm? Get the job first??? Not sure how you apply for a job (and interview) when your in another state.

As others stated there are quite a few Engineering companies in the area. As to how to get a job from elsewhere utilize the web and send out resumes even utilize head hunters. Yes, you'll have to travel to interview although sometimes a first interview might be carried out over the phone. I don't know how the jobs are in the business office of schools but I do know that teachers are in high demand but there is probably an opportunity out there even if not in the schools for you. The reason I recommend getting a job first (at least for one of you) is that I've read these boards and others where people begin to hate where they moved to ONLY because they can't find a job. When they finally do find a job they're still jaded. Also, because you probably want to live within a certain distance to the job and therefore open yourself up to more possibilities.

Yea, your right. After talking to a few others - we finally came up with a game plan. We are visiting the area in June - so we can narrow down where we want to be (Greenville/Simpsonville area) or Summerville (I have an Uncle in Goose Creek) once thats done, then my husband is going to search for a job.

You do not want to move to Greenville or any where near Greenville. There are gangs here and the number of gang members is growing daily. The Hispanic games are even worse. I live behind in an upper middle class neighborhood and a Hispanic gang beat a man to death in the trees behind our house because he owed one of them some money. If you want to go a concert or any other event at the Bi-Lo center expect to pay around one hundred dollars per person to go if you don't want to sit in the nosebleed seats. If you go downtown you better make sure you park in a pay lot because if you don't you want have a car when you come back because it will be towed. Don't call EMS or 911 if you have an emergency. My mom died after waiting 45 minutes and 5 calls to 911. I have lived here all of my life and I have had enough!!!! Women are being attacked at night trying to put gas in their cars. This woman has lived here all of her life and she is getting out as soon as the school year is over

The post above is NOT ACCURATE in any way!
TNTinkerbelle, I'm sorry to have to disagree, but your post is loaded with false information. You are not helping anyone by saying these things here. I have a strong hunch you may be someone else disguised as a new member from Greenville. If you truly think life is that bad in this city, you are in for a serious disappointment once you have moved elsewhere.

My husband also recently lost his job. He was given a really nice offer from a plant in Abbeville last fall when he was unhappy and employed but looking.... now it's a necessity, and they want him still (Thank God I told him to do the interview back then, you never know what will happen!!!). We're in the same boat as you. We'll be moving from Lexington, KY, of course not known as a hotbed of gang activity or anything but it does exist. Our (his) oldest 3 kids, all teenagers, will stay here with their Mom, but our 8 year old daughter, who has already been identified and tested as gifted and talented, will of course be with us. So I have many of the same concerns. I wouldn't mind chatting and sharing info/concerns! He starts his job next Wed. (May 7), and I'll stay in KY with my job for now, but eventually we'll be moving down there. Not sure when, yet. Probably by late summer, so Noelle (our daughter) can start school there in August.
I have a master's degree and have always worked, but am also a "frustrated artist" who could find a lot of satisfaction in having time to "create". And I'm a bit worried about making friends who have kids AND can still have intelligent, adult friendships!!!
I'd love to hear back from you.
Cathy
