I am looking at moving in to the Greenville area, and am concerned with some of the blogs I have read concerning schools ( I have 5 children) and racism. I am a pretty conservative person and am looking for a good place to raise my great family. Any advice, or is Greenville just not the place to be.
I grew up going to Easley High in Pickens County, and I now teach at Wren High in Anderson County and I haven't seen any problems with racism, but the schools are both about 90% white population.
I have lived in northern and southern California, Washington state, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma and Minnesota... and I've encountered some form of racism/sexism/chauvinism/prejudice everywhere I've ever been. I hope to raise my children to be a lot more considerate and sensitive toward others than some of the kids I have seen, but ultimately, everyone has their own personality. What I'm saying is, it's everywhere.

I see that you are a teacher at Wren High School. We are considering Wren or Riverside for our upcoming move. We have three teenagers. They are active in boys basketball, football and girls' volleyball. They are all in advanced classes here (Indiana). Can you tell me about the school climate? Anything from sports to advanced classes to electives, etc. would be helpful. Thanks.
indy317, you can go to http://www.anderson1.k12.sc.us/ to find out information about the Anderson School District 1. I hope that you find the site helpful.
We moved our family down here 3 years ago and have two children. My husband and I are not pleased with the schools at all. We are from Syracuse, New York where we experienced spectacular schools. So, although we will miss the beautiful weather that Greenville has to offer, we are moving home where we know our children will get a much better education. I don't have enough space to write about all the disappointments in the school system here.
