I disagree and predict that the average demographics of SC will remain substantially different from NC for a long time. While SC's population has grown in recent decades, its politics haven't gotten more liberal to any real degree. Quite of a lot of transplants here are Republican voting, and and the two political blocs seem to be growing at similar rates.

Considering that NC has a smaller black population than SC (in percentage), and has given Democratic presidential candidates 9 to 10 percentage points more of the vote in recent years, it's apparent that NC just has far more liberal whites than SC, in raw numbers of course but also in proportion.

SC will likely have a smaller black population in the future as well as more transplants move in.

NC's percentage of black residents is higher than most states and they make the difference in elections.

It appears more people have registered as Republicans nationally in the past two years so there could be a big shift taking place that will lead to more Republican voters moving here.

Their comments about Greenville and the Upstate being clean are a big contrast to the posts on here about it being trashy.

Understood.

But if you look at this map of SC counties by percentage of black residents, the counties with a lot of transplants tend to have a lower % of black residents.

Horry County with Myrtle Beach is only 13% black but if you drive west a little bit into Marion County it jumps up to 57% black.

Those are rural counties. There are more Caucasians than anything in this country, so in areas that prosper you're going to see more of that particular race. But there are definitely people of other races moving here too. There are more people in general moving here regardless of race. Most folks that can afford it are moving to areas that offer more.

Greenville is very clean. But some other parts of the Upstate are not. It varies widely by county.

Keep in mind Republicans only won a trifecta of the governorship, state senate and state House for the first time in 2003 or so.
Can we just politics out of this discussion? Seriously, that always, and I mean always, leads to nothing but trouble. Thank you.
