I was wondring what you favorite small upstate town was and why? For example the town has the best little shops, or they have that great hometown pride with parades or community pig roasts etc.or they have a beautiful and safe community center squarewith a park. Feel free to list away!

Despite a variety of great little towns in this corner of the world (including Landrum, Abbeville, Westminster etc.) I would have to say my favorite small town is Walhalla.
I like Walhalla because it is a quaint, yet humble town. There are beautiful, stately, historic homes hidden among the backstreets of downtown, yet the town remains quite unassuming and very liveable. While the main street is not a 'tourist mecca' or the like -thank goodness - there are some quality restaurants and neat places to shop. I think the sort of rustic appearance of much of the town turns some folks off - but I enjoy the laid back rural atmosphere in town. The location of Walhalla is also great - it is 5-10 minutes from Lake Keowee and right at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Last, the schools in town are generally quite good and the community there is great. I have met the kindest folks there who really support this quaint little South Carolina town. So, my instructions? Don't miss Oktoberfest this year in Walhalla, Don't miss the great performers coming to the refurbished Walhalla Civic Auditorium this Summer (Rhonda Vincent among others) and Don't forget to stop in for a bite to eat or for a leisurely walk around town next time you are in the area. |

I like the Easley/Dacusville area. Dacusville doesn't have much shopping but it is a short drive to Easley or Greenville. They also have Dacusville Farm Days (a community event), and parades and a Rec. Center.Easley has the JB Red Owens Complex (home of the Big League World Series) and there is a walking trail on Highway 135. They are also starting Music on Main St. on Fri. night and there should be free outdoor movies in a couple of weeks. Liberty is also nice and has there own version of Liberty Idol which seems to be a big hit.

Pelzer & Piedmont area, because it is small and just about everybody knows eachother, and I leave my house and still see cows, horses, ect..... It is just a nice place to live.
