Unhappy Marriage - Infidelity Counselors?

I've been here just under a year and a half, originally from Syracuse, NY area and my husband began an affair with the nurse in our doctors office. She's married too...anyway, right now we're trying to put our marriage back together (over 20 years) and I'm looking for a marriage counselor dealing in infidelity. If there is a shortage of information on anything, it's this. Any suggestions? (I really wanted to love G'ville, but it's getting more difficult all the time. )

Thanking you.

I remember you posting on here a while back. How are you making out? I've been thinking about you. I see you are going to try some counselling.

I don't know what faith you are or even if you are religious or not.......but in the Catholic Church there is this program for marriages that are seriously in trouble and on the verge of divorce usually dealing with infidelity or addictions in the marriage.

The program is called "Retrouvaille".
If you called the local Diocease of Charleston (which Greenville falls under) they could direct you, I'm sure.

The Catholic Church also has a retreat called "Marriage Encounter" but that is usually for helping troubled marriages grow stronger before the problems get too serious.
It is also a very nice retreat. My husband and I attended a weekend together in the early years of our Marriage and can honestly say......it was very helpful as we were younger and facing a lot of stresses and difficulties as a lot of marriages do in the beginning.

Good luck and I'll include you in my prayers
If I can help you in any other way......feel free to send me a private message!

I found the website for you:
Retrouvaille Marriage Help for couples with marriage problems.

I read a little on the site and you don't have to be Catholic to attend
Hope it helps.

Call your insurance company, there might be some coverage for this there and if so then you would have to use people in their network. Get the list of names of those in your area and then do some research about these people. You can call the office and ask questions, some people want to know what their religious affiliation is or where they went to school etc.

Oh, I should add this (since the previous poster mentioned costs)

Retrouvaill only asks for a donation. There are no other charges. You can ask them what an appropriate donation would be to cover the costs they incurred helping you and your spouse, however, they never turn anyone away who can't afford financially to seek help!!

They are aware that not everyone seeking help can afford insurance or perhaps the co-pays that go along with some of these services. Another thing to consider is that some marriages are so far gone that the couple would rather "walk out" than pay someone to tell them something they think they already know. Some couples take this "last" step" for help just before they leave since it's not a financial burden.

Because Retrouvaille has saving marriages as their ultimate goal.......they are not interested in making a profit (just covering their expenses) and are not trying to convert anyone to a specific religion (Catholic or otherwise). This is why they have certain weekends available called "CMD" weekends available (Christian Multi-Denominational).

They also state in their website.....anyone who is agnostic or athesiest could also benefit from this program and not feel that their views were not being respected.

Like I stated earlier......their mission is to help you save your marriage not convert you!
Everyone knows that healthy marriages and strong happy families are great contributions to society, whether they are believers or not.

Footnote:.........NO.......I don't work for Retrouvaille! haha
I just like their philiosphy and feel that as "Christians" we should be providing these types of services for welfare of our community. When you take dollar signs out of the equation......you know it's being done for the right reasons.

David Cox is a counselor in Spartanburg that does a great job with marriage issues. Missy Edwards is a counselor in Greenville. Both are very good. Missy works out of Hampton Heights Baptist Church in Greenville. David has a private office I believe in Spartanburg. My husband and I have walked this road and are working hard to recover. I posted about a year ago about starting a support group for couples dealing with infidelity. We have a group curriculum that deals specifically with this issue. It lasts several weeks. If you are interested in the group or just need someone to talk to, please DM me. Blessings to you and I'm so sorry for your pain.
