Default Seeking civilized discussion on private schools

It seems there's so much great information about Greenville's public schools, but the only private school I keep hearing about is Christ Church. I was wondering if anyone could discuss private schools (including that one) and tell of any good points, bad points, etc. of any schools that you know about. Or, if there is some kind of website for private schools like the one for the public school system, I'm definitely interested.

I know one of the recent threads got a bit heated when a private school issue came up, so I'm really hoping to not offend anyone's religious beliefs, parenting, etc. Also, I'm not wondering about any certain schools, so just tell what you know if you have the time. Thanks!

Hi-
We chose a private preschool and kindergarten for our daughter (and will do the same for our son). We live in a good school district (Mauldin) but since I am a stay-at-home mother ,we didn't feel the need for her to be in school all day long as a Kindergartner. The school is church-based, but they have great teachers and I feel that my child will be well-prepared for the first grade in a public school.

I've heard good things about Christ Church. I would recommend looking into it. Oh and you didn't offend me.

My oldest daughter will be attending St. Joseph's Catholic School (grades 6-12). I hear wonderful things about it. It ranked one of the top 25 Catholic Schools in the nation.......and one of the best private schools in Greenville.

My younger children will be attending Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School. It goes from grades K-8.

Hope this helps!

I don't know about any of the private schools in Greenville. but I can tell you how I feel about them. Here in FL, public schools aren't too great. I just read in the paper that some of our county schools are below 50% graduation rate! By contrast, the private Christian school my son went to traditionally has 100% college enrollment. Not only did our son prosper academically, but he is also a fine, moral, considerate, and well-dressed young man. As another benefit, being involved closely with the school for 15 years (he started in pre-school) also strengthened our faith tremendously. Before you think we are rich, I drove a $300 pick-up for several years to make ends meet. I wish the public schools could offer the education and ethics training that private schools provide, but it doesn't seem like that will ever happen.

I have seen some other schools can't remember the names that are Prep Schools, I think there was one in the Mauldin/Simpsonville area and there is also Palmetto Prep on Woodruff Road. It seems that there is a wide choice at least of private schools to choose from which is good to have a variety to seek out and find the right one! Good Luck.

I know there is a St Mary's somewhere in the Greenville area, but I know nothing else about it. I do know it has a few teaching nuns at it though. (I actually only know about it because my former roommate, who is Catholic, is going to become a nun and went and visited them).

St. Mary's is in downtown Greenville area. I looked into it but it is further away from my husband's work than OLR. Sounds like a nice school though.
