Just to make sure, did you use the actual "Street View"? I'm not talking about looking straight down via the satellite photos. It should look like this.
Yes, I have used street view. That is a one time shot at a random time of day. It is a good starting point, but not as reliable as hearing from people that actually know the area.
West Greenville around the white horse road towestern part of downtown area is pretty rough. Also alot of Areas off of Jacobs Road an alot of area on Augusta road, and around North Pleasantburg in the Nicholtown area.

Of course it really depends on what part of Augusta you're on. There are really bad areas and then there are very nice, expensive areas along that road. The nicer part is obviously the end closest to downtown. (well...starting right after you cross Church St) Once you get passed the nice parts and into the Southside High area you'll be wanting to turn around for sure.
Motor Boat Club Rd is fine. It's your old fashioned lake community- smaller homes that get nicer closer to the water. The neighborhood next to it is very nice- Westcliff. The White Horse Rd area there has a lot of traffic but is not a bad area. If you want to say the address of the house, I'm going swimming at Saluda Lake today and I could drive by it.
I live on the northwest side, in an area that's not so desirable. If your just driving through it looks a little ghetto to be honest. But I can say that even here, it's not that bad. I don't feel unsafe, I still walk my dogs, I talk with my neighbors, I don't feel like I'm a moving target or five seconds away from being mugged.
The area is not "pretty" but just because a place isn't beautiful yet, doesn't mean it's totally unsafe and unlivable either.
In my neighborhood people are fixing up their houses left and right. There is progress and I can see everyone's property value raising in the coming years. Plus, I'm only two minutes from nice areas so overall it's not a bad deal.
I'm just saying that you shouldn't be afraid to look in "unconventional" areas if you find a house that you like. You could get in when the prices are low and then reap the benefits as the area is getting fixed up.
