^And I've heard they are horrible.
AT&T has DSL in the area, but it's not available at all addresses. Prices range from $19.95 to $42.95 ($19.195 to $47.95 for standalone DSL).

Don't get me started on Charter's service. I just switched my phone back to AT&T this week. I am waiting for AT&T DSL to be available at my home. It can't happen soon enough!

Charter. Hmm. I've had there service for years now. I'm down to just internet and basic cable and will eventually go sattelite when my house is finished. I haven't had a problem with their product, but customer service is lousy to say the least, especially if you call. Too many foreigners manning the lines that don't have a clue.

I would like an honest reality check on Charter - I telecommute so service issues are not transparent to my employer - is service bad enough to not buy a house that is outside of an AT&T DSL area? Looking in Simpsonville.
Reliability is important to me - most of my internet connection is VOIP and email - so a lot of speed and bandwidth are not so much the issue but dropped packets and signal quality are as are reliable service. Looking at Simpsonville.
What are the nature of issues - I know how to the basics like rebooting my modem etc when I have a connection problem. Right now I have Comporium in Fort Mill and it is adequate [signal quality could be better but other than that.............]
AT&T cannot provide me with service maps or lists - so I have to look up availability for them on street by street basis.

I've only been here two months, but so far my experience with Charter has been good. Our internet was slow/unreliable after a bad microburst storm we had the other day, but went back to normal within 48 hrs.

Depends on the area you move to, OP. My area here in Mauldin is maxed out on Charter because DSL was not available for a long time. Remarkably I haven't had any issues with it today but other days it will go out several times a day for minutes or even hours at a time. Since my phone is no longer Charter maybe that makes a difference; though it shouldn't. If you can talk to neighbors where you are looking to live they might be able to give you an idea of reliability.

I have only been here 3 months but I really haven't had any problems with charter. My phone seems to work all the time and my internet connection has always worked. I just checked my download and upload speed it was 9.8mb's d/l and 1mb up. I think thats really good.

Wow, this is really enlightening. What those who are satisfied are saying is still pretty bad based on my experience - out 48 hours after a storm, some days it will go out several times a day. If anyone is in a neighborhood near Simpsonville with AT&T please let me know.
