My family will be moving south from NH this fall and love Raleigh--we have been there a few times. However, we have the option of moving to Greenville SC instead. I have looked into Greenville online & through this forum (never been there) and it seems so beautiful and the surrounding towns appear to be safe. We would move to a surrounding town of either Raleigh, NC or Greenville, SC. We have a three year old. We have never been to Greenville, so need your help!
Those of you who have seen both areas, which would you choose and why? Thanks!
One has more people than the other. If you do choose Greenville though, your three year old will enjoy the Children's Museum which will open next year. It will be the largest children's museum in the southeast. We also have a zoo too. Can't find that in Raleigh.
I have one stepson with children in a suburb of Raleigh (Apex to be exact) and one here in the Greenville area. Raleigh may have more of some things, but I think Greenville is a better place to raise kids, and it's way more beautiful with less traffic, lower taxes, etc. And G-man is right -- the Children's Museum is going to be awesome! In the meantime, you can take your three-year-old up to the Hands On Gallery in Hendersonville. It's a fun place where he/she can do art, play dress-up and go on stage, go grocery shopping, play doctor in a little hospital setting and way more. It's loads of fun, and Hendersonville is a neat town the whole family might enjoy. That and so much more is less than an hour from Greenville.
I live in Greenville and love it. My friend lives in Raliegh and loves it too. She says it reminds her of Greenville, only bigger, more liberal, and yet not as cool. If you have family far away, you may consider that Raliegh has a much better airport than we do in Greenville- more flights to more places. Another thing to think about is college (I know- he's only 3!). NC has some great in-state colleges that are cheaper for residents.
All that said, I love Greenville and hope y'all come visit. We're friendly and the mountains are close. You might miss your mountains!
Thank you everyone for your input. I like to see the reasons why places are important to people ad this forum has been excellent for helping relocation. Thanks again for your opinions
