I get a chance to come to Greenville next week and would like advice on where to stay. I am looking for something downtown, but not too expensive. I am not looking for anything special. Just clean and in a good part of town. Any advice?

Here is a list of hotels that are currently downtown. Several others are under construction at this time. I recommend the Hampton Inn and Suites myself. The cheapest would probably be the Holiday Inn Express:

Hampton Inn and Suites at Riverplace: Greenville hotels: Hampton Inn & Suites Greenville - RiverPlace Downtown, SC. The Hampton Inn & Suites Greenville RiverPlace Downtown South Carolina provides online hotel reservations and lodging
Hyatt Regency: Hyatt Hotels and Resorts - Make Reservations Online at Hyatt.com
Westin Poinsett: Westin Greenville Hotels: The Westin Poinsett, Greenville - Hotel Rooms at westin.com
Holiday Inn Express: Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites GREENVILLE Hotels | GREENVILLE-DOWNTOWN | Welcome

use priceline. Before I moved here I stayed at the Hyatt for no more than $50 bucks a night. There are several sites online where people post their winning bids for different cities.
